Did you know the difference between Hurricanes and Typhoons?

What is the difference between a hurricane and a typhoon

Did you know that Hurricanes and Typhoons are the same thing?

Topical cyclones.

Meteorologists use the term to describe an assembled and rotating system of clouds and thunderstorms that originate over tropical waters.

Topical Depressions are weak cyclones with winds under 38 miles per house.

Once the winds are over 39 miles per hour, the Tropical Depression has turned into a Tropical Storm.

If the cyclone reaches winds of 74 miles per hour or over – it is then categorized as a hurricane.

What do Tropical Cyclones need to form?

A pre-existing weather disturbance, heated tropical oceans, and wind. If these components last, they then combine to create winds, waves, torrential rains, and floods.

What are Potential Tropical Cyclones?

Storms that don’t fit all of the above criteria but may still be a force are called potential tropical cyclones.

The Atlantic hurricane season officially begins June 1st and ends November 30th.

However, hurricanes can form beyond these dates. Be safe. Be Prepared.
