A customer wanted to make sure that his generator worked as safely as possible so he asked us to install a transfer switch.
A transfer switch is the safest way to run a generator. It is basically a combination electrical subpanel and switch that is wired to a home’s service panel. Then, the generator is plugged into the transfer switch. When the switch is flipped, it disconnects the home from the utility grid. It also keeps power from flowing from the generator to outside of the home so that a utility worker working nearby is not killed or injured. It sends power to designated home circuits so that the generator is overloaded. It is imperative that a professional install this device.
